As the end of the year draws near, we at Friends of PIR would like to reflect on a successful 2024. We would also like to humble brag about our impact on the track and let all of you know why you should be proud of the work your non-profit has accomplished. Lastly, we would ask that you consider making a donation to help us do even more in 2025.
Friends of PIR would like to thank the hundreds of volunteers that selflessly donated their time in 2024. With over 500 events each year, Portland International Raceway is one of the most visited city parks in the Pacific Northwest. These events are put on with ZERO taxpayer dollars from the City of Portland and the State of Oregon.
Friends of PIR Projects
Since its inception in 2006, FOPIR has been focused on supporting PIR road racing activities. But in 2024, we kicked off new and exciting projects intended to bring two special groups of people to the track: kids and veterans.
FOPIR Pergola: The 30’ x 60’ structure in the south paddock will be available for user groups and event rentals. Construction is scheduled to be completed by spring 2025. Having a year-round weather sheltered area will be crucial to support our new youth focused projects. Read more at: https://friendsofpir.com/september-pergola-update/
Summer youth camps: FOPIR is working with local organizations to pilot a summer 2025 STEM camp, with more camps in 2026 and beyond. Our goal is to provide minimal cost (our goal is FREE) camps to City of Portland kids who might otherwise never get to experience the park. Look for more information on this exciting project soon.
Rose Cup Races youth programs: Through a relationship with Faithful Friends (a big brother/big sister non-profit), FOPIR brought dozens of kids and their mentors to the 2024 Rose Cup Races. As we look forward to 2025, we are in discussions with Faithful Friends and several other youth based organizations to bring kids and their parents/mentors to the races free of charge. We are also talking to other groups about camping and weekend long visits, as well as youth focused vendors to make the event memorable for kids of all ages. If you work with a youth based organization and are interested in bringing them to the Rose Cup Races, we would love to hear from you.
Rose Cup Races veterans programs: FOPIR worked with VetTix to provide free 2024 Rose Cup Races tickets to more than 500 veterans. Our goal is to see even more veterans at the 2025 Rose Cup Races.
As Friends of PIR helps to bring in more youth and veterans to the park we are in need of your help. Please consider one of the many ways to make a difference via FOPIR, to learn more go to: https://friendsofpir.com/how-to-donate-to-friends-of-pir/
