In an electrifying showdown at the BitNile.com Grand Prix of Portland, Team Penske veteran Will Power delivered a commanding performance, claiming his first victory of the 2025 NTT IndyCar season. Starting from third on the grid, Power executed a flawless drive across the 110-lap, 1.964-mile, 12-turn road course at Portland International Raceway, clinching his 45th career win in IndyCar. Christian Lundgaard of Arrow McLaren completed a solid weekend with a runner-up finish, while three-time defending champion Alex Palou crossed the line in third to celebrate a major milestone.
Palou arrived in Portland leading the championship standings by a robust 121 points over Pato O’Ward, cruising toward what looked firmly like a fourth title. His rivals, however, faced heartbreak early in the race; O’Ward, who had secured pole position, was forced into an extended pit stop due to an electronic issue, ultimately finishing a distant 25th—ten laps down. That misfortune sealed Palou’s fate: his third-place finish at PIR mathematically clinched him the 2025 IndyCar Series championship. This marks his fourth title in five years, tying him with legends such as Dario Franchitti, Sebastien Bourdais, and Ted Horn for consecutive championships.
Dennis Hauger delivered a commanding performance in the Indy NXT race, grabbing the win by 0.9353 seconds over championship rival Caio Collet and extending his points lead to 54—just about one race margin—with two oval races remaining (Milwaukee and Nashville). This win also secured him the Rookie of the Year title in the series.
All four tiers of the USF Pro Championships concluded their 2025 season at Portland International Raceway as part of the INDYCAR weekend festivities.
- USF Pro 2000: Max Garcia swept both races, tying a wins record and capping a dominant season.
- USF 2000: Jack Jeffers secured the title with a commanding victory, while Musella grabbed the closing race win; VRD Racing captured the teams’ championship.
- USF Juniors: Leonardo Escorpioni closed out his title campaign with two wins, securing individual and team honors for Zanella Racing.
