September Brings Sprint Racing and Endurance Action to PIR

September is shaping up to be a big month at Portland International Raceway, with two straight weekends of amateur road racing bringing a wide mix of cars, drivers, and racing formats to the PIR road course rain or shine. Oregon Region SCCA opens the action September 12–13 with its September Double Regional, followed by Cascade Sports Car Club’s Chicane Challenge XXXIV and Festival of Endurance on September 19–20.

The first weekend puts the spotlight on Oregon Region SCCA’s final race weekend of the 2026 season at PIR. The September Double Regional includes qualifying and a 25-minute race on Saturday, then a 20-minute sprint race and a 25-minute feature race on Sunday, with the NW Spec Miata Tour Championship finale adding even more intensity to the weekend. The SCCA Autocross Solo event will take place at the same time in the South Paddock by Fast Track Cafe.

Fans can expect close racing, a strong variety of sports cars, and easy access to the paddock atmosphere that makes club racing at PIR such a fun experience. The event will run on the chicane configuration, use the infield North Paddock, and offer free admission for spectators.

The following weekend, Cascade Sports Car Club brings a different kind of challenge to PIR with what it calls “The Ultimate Racer’s Weekend.” The Chicane Challenge XXXIV and Festival of Endurance combine Saturday double-race action with Sunday endurance racing, including 2-hour, 4-hour, and 6-hour enduros that put strategy, teamwork, and consistency front and center.

That second weekend gives fans a chance to see a different side of road racing, where pit work, pacing, and long-run execution matter just as much as raw speed. Cascade’s will also use the North Paddock and offer free admission for spectators.

For fans looking for an affordable live motorsports experience in Portland, these two weekends offer a lot to like: competitive regional racing, endurance drama, and a chance to get close to the action at one of the Northwest’s most recognizable road courses. Since admission is free to both weekends, bring the whole family!
